Trump wants to occupy Greenland
Trump has been trying to establish his control over Greenland for a long time. He had even expressed his intention to buy Greenland. For this, Trump is now putting economic pressure on his own NATO allies. In a post made on social media, President Trump clearly said that if Denmark and its partner countries are not ready to negotiate on the sale and purchase of Greenland, then they will have to pay the economic price.
Trump has announced to impose a 10% tariff on goods coming from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Finland from February 1, 2026. Along with this he warned that if no agreement is reached by June 1, then this tax will be increased to 25%.
Why is Greenland so special?
Greenland is the largest island in the world. The population here is less, but its strategic and political importance is huge. It is located in the Arctic region, hence this area is considered very sensitive in terms of military, energy and trade. Melting ice is opening new sea routes and making access to mineral resources easier. This is why America has been trying to strengthen its hold in Greenland for a long time.
