Philippines Fire: A massive fire that broke out in a small island in the southern Philippines caused massive devastation, rendering thousands of people homeless. According to state news agency PNA, the fire broke out in Barangay Lamian area at around 10 pm (1400 GMT) and continued to burn for about four hours. During this time, about 1,000 houses built on pillars and mostly made of light materials were completely destroyed by fire. Due to strong winds, the fire spread rapidly and engulfed the densely populated area.

The fire has caused massive destruction in the entire area. According to the PNA, after this accident, more than 5,000 people were evacuated safely by both land and sea and are currently kept temporarily in two relief camps.

On Wednesday, the Bongao local administration, together with the Bangsamoro Ministry of Social Services and Development and the provincial government, began initial relief efforts. At the same time, health workers of Bongao Rural Health Unit were also deployed for the treatment and medical needs of the displaced people.
The Bongao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said no one was killed in the accident, but several footbridges were damaged, complicating firefighting and rescue operations. Firefighters confirmed the fire was under control at around 2 a.m. (1800 GMT). At present, the administration has started investigating the cause of the fire and the total damage caused to the property is being assessed.
