DGCA reprimands Air India for sending wrong plane to Vancouver, one officer fined

DGCA Wraps Air India: A serious case of negligence of Air India has come to light, after which the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reprimanded Air India. Air India mistakenly sent a Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft for the flight to Vancouver, whereas only the Boeing 777-300ER was approved for this route. Due to this, the plane had to return to Delhi after flying for about 7 hours, because it was not approved for that route.

Big negligence of Air India

Immediately after this incident, DGCA directed Air India to take corrective steps and action was also taken against an airline official for this negligence. This issue is serious because different aircraft are allowed for each international route depending on their range, safety standards and regulatory approvals. In such a situation, sending the wrong aircraft is not only a violation of rules, but it can also create a security risk and also wastes the time and resources of the passengers.

Such incidents raise questions on the credibility of the airline. In such a situation, amidst the strictness of DGCA, it has become necessary that the flight planning and approval process be strengthened in future, so that such mistakes are not repeated.

What is the difference?

Both Boeing 777-200LR and Boeing 777-300ER are Boeing 777 series aircraft. But there is a lot of difference between them. The 777-300ER is larger and longer in size, seating up to 350–400 passengers, while the 777-200LR is relatively smaller and can accommodate only about 250–300 passengers.

In terms of range, the 777-200LR is considered an ultra-long range aircraft and can cover greater distances, while the 777-300ER has a slightly shorter range, but is considered more commercially useful due to the capacity to carry more passengers.
