There was a dialogue in the film Jannat – ‘There is not much difference between cricketers and actors… the youth of both ends… so the story ends’. It is also believed that when actors take retirement due to age, people forget them. But there are some actors who are still working as much as any young actor does and that is why their stardom remains intact and they also get a lot of love.
Amitabh Bachchan is a living example of this. Even at the age of 83, he is active in films. But there is another actor who was also helpful in making Amitabh’s career and his age was also about 6 years more than Amitabh Bachchan. We are talking about Dharmendra who is no more in this world. Dharmendra died on 24 November at the age of 88.
Dharmendra’s career was longer than the age of Shahrukh-Salman
Dharmendra, who gave a superhit like Rocky Rani Ki Prem Kahani (2023) just a few days ago, is now going to be seen in the film Ikkis with Amitabh’s grandson. Today, there is no actor in Bollywood who has been acting continuously for 65 years, only Dharmendra was there and now he has left his fans crying. His acting career has been more than the age of Shahrukh-Salman.

Dharmendra is not just an actor, he is a living example of heroism.
After debuting with the film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960, Dharmendra never looked back. Initially he became a ‘boyfriend’ and then he started appearing in many romantic films one after the other. His height and physical structure were such that when he got a chance in action films, he emerged as the biggest action hero.
He was seen in action in 1966’s Phool Aur Patthar and then in 1971’s Mera Gaon Mera Desh. When Amitabh came, Dharmendra had become a big star. It was he who got Amitabh to play the role of Jai in a film like Sholay by asking Ramesh Sippy. What else happened is still known to the world today.
Dealed with bad times as per your wish
It is not the same every time. After the arrival of Amitabh Bachchan, the game of stardom in Bollywood changed completely. Mithun was then followed by new faces like Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. All these faces were young and very good at acting. After 80s and 90s, Dharmendra’s career also got affected due to increasing age and lack of newness.
However, even during this time Dharmendra made a strategic move. He started doing low budget B-grade films. He made films like Loha, Meri Jung Ka Aalaan and Jallad No. 1, which may look cringe-worthy today, but they were successful in keeping him financially stable. Because of these films, Dharmendra remained popular among his old fans who wanted to see his old heroism.

Dharmendra’s masterstroke
Dharmendra’s master stroke was when he realized that he would not remain the hero of this generation for long and at this time he thought of opening a production house. Because of this production house named Vijeta Films, today we have two big stars in front of us. The first is Sunny Deol and the second is Bobby Deol.
Both of these were launched from this production house. Sunny Deol managed to make a mark in Bollywood with Betaab in 1983 and then Bobby Deol with Barsaat in 1995. The biggest achievement for any father is that his son surpasses him. Sunny Deol’s Ghayal also came out of this production house and also won the National Award.
Dharmendra’s second masterstroke
Dharmendra’s second masterstroke was when he re-entered the changing Bollywood. He returned again to become the favorite actor of the new generation. This time with a completely new story. The name of the film was ‘Metro’ and the year was 2007.
After this, his another film came in the same year. With this film named ‘Apne’, he again did something for his loved ones with his own production house. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol were not able to recover from the flops. But with this film, again a hit film came to the credit of both of them.

Dharmendra always remains relevant
Dharmendra gave whatever the audience wanted whenever. It was only for the fans that he decided to become Heman after being a romantic hero. After this he started doing B-grade films and then became relevant among today’s generation. He has an audience of all ages because no one has seen Bollywood changing as much as he has.
In ‘Rocky Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, at the age of 84, he became the senior most actor to do such a lip-locking scene.
Dharmendra was another name for vivacity
Dharmendra is an actor whose liveliness is reflected in his films also. You must have seen his comedy in the films of Yamla Pagla Deewana series. Let us tell you that due to his cheerfulness in the film named Gajab years ago, it became the best comedy film of Bollywood.
His personality was exactly like Veeru of Sholay, that is, he was both emotional and comic. From videos of him roaming in the fields eating stale bread to videos of him crying over the memories of old friends, many of his videos were seen on social media. There is another story that whenever the underworld rules in Mumbai, he had on the contrary threatened the underworld that if they messed with me, the people of my village would come here in trucks like an army for me. Then after this, even the underworld did not mess with him. Only Dharmendra could do this and in reality he was also doing it.
