Bollywood’s veteran actor Dharmendra died on November 24 at the age of 89. Born in 1935, Dharmendra entered Bollywood by winning the talent hunt in 1958. Dharmendra also entered politics in 2004 and was elected MP from Bikaner.
Dharmendra, who has done more than 300 films in his career, was also awarded many awards like Padma Bhushan. Despite this, his last rites were performed without any state honours. Know here why this happened
Why was Dharmendra deprived of state honour?
According to sources, information about Dharmendra’s death was not given to the administration on time. Under this process, the family has to send an official proposal to the government, which takes some time. But Dharmendra’s family did not show any interest in this direction. Even for several hours after the death, no official statement was issued to the media and the last rites were performed in a hurry.
The media and industry came to know about Dharmendra’s demise when his body was being taken to the cremation ground. Dharmendra’s second wife Hema Malini also reached the crematorium directly. Industry veterans like Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan also reached the crematorium as soon as they got the information. Shahrukh Khan arrived late, he reached when the last rites were over and most of the people had left from there.
Dharmendra has been awarded many awards
Dharmendra was given the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 for his contribution to cinema. After this, in the year 2012, Dharmendra was also honored with Padma Bhushan. This is an honor given by the Government of India which is given to the citizens for special service.
What does a family have to do to get state honours?
To get a state honour, the family first has to inform the administration that they want a state honour. By sending a request letter, one has to mention the achievements and awards of the deceased along with the public service done by him/her.
After fulfilling the requirements of the family’s consent, documents like death certificate and identity card, the administration after carefully examining the actions of the deceased, approves the state honour. After getting the approval, a salute and guard of honor is given by the administration in the presence of government officials.
