Virender Sehwag was known as an explosive batsman, good bowlers trembled in front of him. His fear among the bowlers was because he tried to put big shots with the first ball. Now after years, he made a big disclosure that when MS Dhoni dropped him out of the team, he wanted to take retirement. He told how Sachin Tendulkar’s advice helped in his return.

Talking on commentator Padmjit Sehwag’s YouTube channel, Virender Sehwag said, “After the initial 3 matches of the series against Australia in 2007-08, MS Dhoni dropped me out of the team. After this I was not getting a place in the team for some time. Then I thought that if I could not come in playing 11, I did not mean any meaning of playing ODI cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar’s advice helped

Virender Sehwag then told that he went to Sachin. He told, “I went to Sachin Tendulkar and told him that I want to retire from ODI. Sachin said that he too saw such a period in 1999 to 2000 and he also wanted to retire, but then that round passed. Sachin told me that I do not make any big decision with emotional, do not make any big decision, give time of 1 or 2 series and then think about it.”

Virender Sehwag’s performance was nothing special in the 2008 tri -series, he scored a total of 81 runs in 5 matches. Gautam Gambhir scored 440 runs in him, he was the highest run -scorer in this series. Sachin Tendulkar was at number two, he scored 399 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar’s advice came to work for Virender Sehwag, after which he was able to return to the Indian team and then also became vice -captain. He was part of the team in the 2011 World Cup, which India won by defeating Sri Lanka in the final under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
