It is extremely cold in most parts of the country at this time. The ongoing snowfall in the hilly areas has further increased the chill. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dense to very dense fog in the morning in northwest India and Bihar for the next few days. Apart from this, cold day alert has been issued in many states today.
According to the Meteorological Department, a warning has been issued regarding cold day in different areas of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. There is a possibility of cold wave in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha.
Where is the possibility of rain?
The weather in South India may worsen due to the deep depression over the south-eastern Bay of Bengal and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean. There is a possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu on 9 and 10 January. There may be heavy rain in Kerala also on January 10.
Delhi weather
Cold havoc continues in the capital Delhi also. On Thursday (January 8), the third lowest minimum temperature of the season was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of dense fog for Friday, while the minimum temperature has been forecast to be around 6 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature will be around 17 degrees Celsius.
Severe cold in UP
These days, due to cold wave in Uttar Pradesh, people are facing severe cold. The Meteorological Department has predicted a cold day in the state on Friday. Visibility may remain very low due to fog in the capital Lucknow and surrounding districts. There is a possibility of light sunshine at many places till noon. Pollution has still not reduced in many areas adjacent to Delhi. On Thursday, AQI remained close to 300 in Ghaziabad and Noida.

Westerly winds have increased the cold in Bihar. In the capital Patna, District Magistrate Dr. Thiagarajan SM has banned educational activities up to class 8 in all private and government schools (including pre-schools, Anganwadi centers) of the district till January 11 due to cold. For classes above 8th class, the time has been fixed between 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
