Even before the England tour, we had said that if he had been fit, he would have definitely been selected in the squad. Unfortunately, he was not fully fit. What did Shami say?
Recently, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar had said that he does not have any update regarding Shami. When Shami was asked a question in this regard, he said, “My job is only to go to NCA, practice and play matches. Selection is not in my hands. If there was any fitness problem, I would not have been here (in Ranji Trophy). If I can play a match lasting 4 days, then I can play in the 50-over format as well.”

Mohammed Shami is currently playing for Bengal in Ranji Trophy. In the first round Ranji Trophy match against Uttarakhand, he took 3 wickets for just 37 runs in 14.5 overs. In this he also bowled 4 maiden overs. In the Bengal vs Uttarakhand match, he bowled 15 overs and gave only 21 runs till stumps on the third day. Shami has bowled about 30 overs in this match and somewhere he has proved his fitness.
