Lakshmi-Ganesh will be worshiped on this day and other traditional events will also be organized on this date.

Why is there confusion about the date of Diwali?

There is confusion regarding the date of Diwali because according to the calendar, the date of Kartik Amavasya is starting on October 20 at 3:44 pm, which will end on October 21 at 5:54 pm. In Hindu religion, most of the festivals are to be celebrated on Udaya Tithi i.e. the day on which the sun rises. Therefore many people are considering the date of Diwali as 21st October.

But Diwali is such a festival in which there is a tradition to worship Goddess Lakshmi during Pradosh period. Diwali should be celebrated when Pradosh Kaal coincides with Kartik Amavasya. Therefore, the festival of Diwali will be celebrated on 20th October only.

Lakshmi Puja Muhurat (Laxmi Puja 2025 Muhurat)

The auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja on Diwali on 20th October will be from 05:46 pm to 08:18 pm. This auspicious time is considered to be the most appropriate for Diwali worship. Whereas if you are celebrating Diwali on 21st, then there is neither any yoga nor any auspicious time to worship Lakshmi on this day. If you worship Lakshmi during Pradosh period on 21st October then it may cause defects. Therefore, it will be auspicious to perform worship, remedies and other programs related to Diwali on 20th October only.
