Tihar is also called Yama Panchak. It is associated with Yamraj, the god of death, and his sister Yamuna. This festival shows respect for nature and living beings. A special ritual is performed every 5 days on this festival.
Kaag Tihar first day
Kaag Tihar is celebrated on the first day of Tihar. It is dedicated to crows. Actually, crows are considered the messengers of Yama. On this day, people feed sweets and grains to Kaag so that all the sorrows in their house get destroyed and good luck comes in the coming years.
second day kukur tihar
Kukur Tihar is celebrated on the second day which is dedicated to dogs. Dogs are considered protectors and messengers of Yamraj. Tilak is applied on their forehead and they are fed delicious food as a mark of respect.
Gai Tihar third day
Cows are worshiped on the third day. Cows are a symbol of wealth and prosperity in Hindu culture. In the evening, houses are decorated with lamps and lights and Lakshmi Puja is performed.
fourth day goru tihar
This day has been dedicated to bulls. This day is dedicated to honoring the hard work of oxen in agriculture. This day is celebrated to commemorate the important role of animals in maintaining human livelihood and to express our gratitude towards them.
fifth day bhai dooj
Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the fifth day. It is a celebration of the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters apply tilak on the forehead of their brothers and pray for their long life and prosperity. Brothers give gifts to their sisters.
