The problem of kidney stones has become very common these days. People suffering from problems like severe pain, burning sensation and difficulty in urination often keep looking for new methods of treatment. Meanwhile, some time ago a claim came forward which surprised everyone. In fact, some time ago it was claimed that kidney stones can be removed automatically by riding a roller coaster. It may be difficult for many people to believe after hearing this, but an attempt was made to test it in a study conducted in America. In such a situation, let us tell you whether kidney stones can actually be cured by riding a roller coaster and how much truth is there in this claim?
How did this strange claim happen?
The claim that kidney stones can be cured by sitting on a roller coaster came into discussion a long time ago when some people reported that their kidney stones were thrown out after sitting on Walt Disney World’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride. After this claim, doctors at Michigan State University of America had decided to research this claim. In this research, a 3D printed silicone model of a human kidney was made, in which urine and kidney stones of three different sizes were kept. After this, keeping this model in a bag, the scientists traveled on the roller coaster ride of Disney Park 60 times. The purpose of this research was to know whether stones come out due to strong shocks and movements or not.
Surprising results revealed in research
In this research, it was revealed that when the model was placed on the back seat of the roller coaster, the stones came out in about 63 percent of the cases. At the same time, in the model placed on the front seat, only 16 percent of the stones could come out. Apart from this, the maximum effect was seen when the stones were in the upper part of the kidney. In such a situation, all the stones came out in 100 percent of the cases when kept behind.
Research was not done on real patients
In the research done by scientists regarding kidney stones, the model’s kidney stones came out after being placed on the roller coaster. The thing to note in this research was that this research was not done on real patients, but on a model kidney. Scientists say that this is preliminary research, the purpose of which was to understand whether stones can move due to strong shocks. However, it cannot be claimed that a similar effect occurs in humans also. Regarding this, many neurologists have also said that till now no concrete evidence has been found which can prove that kidney stones are removed by riding roller coaster. However, according to some experts, some patients have complained of increased pain or slipping of the stone after riding.
