US President Donald Trump said on Monday that direct talks between the US and Iran and the first meeting is scheduled on Saturday, which will be almost at the top level. He said that the failure to reach the agreement will pose a huge danger to Tehran, as he cannot be allowed to keep nuclear weapons.
The US President did not give any indication about the location of the talks or the officials involved in it. However, he said several times at a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the talks will be “very top” and “almost the highest level”.
Trump was announced at a time when he started the process with public invitation for the first time, which was rejected by Irani supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
Trump adopted a maximum pressure policy on Iran, in his first term, by canceling the 2015 JCPOA (also known as the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan – also called Iran Agreement). The agreement was signed by President Barack Obama between the United Nations Security Council’s P5 member countries America, UK, France, China and Russia and Germany (+1) and Iran. Under this, the United Nations’ rigorous sanctions were lifted in exchange for Iran’s nuclear weapon program.
Trump said, “We have a direct conversation with Iran, which will start from Saturday. We have a very big meeting, and we will see what can happen, and I think everyone agrees that it will be better to make a compromise, clear action. Truth, to be honest, Israel also does not want to join it, if they can avoid it.”
He said, “If the conversation with Iran is not successful, then I think Iran is going to be very dangerous, because they cannot have nuclear weapons. You know, it does not have a complex formula. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. That’s all. That’s all. You cannot prepare it right now.”
