On Friday (May 23, 2025), US President Donald Trump gave a major warning to the iPhone manufacturer Apple that if iPhones are made in America in other countries, the company will have to pay 25 percent tariffs. Donald Trump posted a post on his social media platform Truth Social Social that Apple CEO has told Tim Cook that the iPhone sold in America will be produced in the country itself, not in India or any other country.
Donald Trump wrote in the post that I told Tim Cook long ago that I hope that his iPhones sold in the United States will be built in the United States itself, not in India or in any other place. He further said that if it is not so, Apple will have to give at least 25 percent tariff to America.
‘India is one of the biggest construction centers of iPhone’
India has emerged as one of the largest manufacturing centers of Apple’s iPhone in the last 5 years. The company’s assembly lines in the country have prepared 22 billion dollars of smartphones in the last financial year in 12 months. The US -based company has produced 60 percent more iPhones in India than last year.
‘Do not produce iPhone in India’
Last month, Reuters reported that Apple was establishing India as an alternative manufacturing base amidst the supplies related concerns and an increase in iPhone prices due to the tariff of Trump on China. Last week, US President Donald Trump asked Apple CEO Tim Cook not to produce iPhone in India and focus on manufacturing in America.
Trump, who reversed global markets due to tariff policies, said in Qatar that he does not want Cook to build in India. Trump said that yesterday I had some trouble with Tim Cook. They are building all over India. I do not want you to build in India.
