The Department of Telecommunication (DOT) has discontinued more than 1.75 lakh direct inward calling (DID) and landline numbers. These numbers were found to be involved in unauthorized promotional and illegal activities. This action is part of the continuous running campaign of DOT against spam calls and cyber fraud. In addition, DOT has strictly instructed the telecom companies (TSPS) to strictly follow the unified license rules. Companies have been instructed to ensure regular audit of Pris, Lease Lines, SIP Trunks and IPLC and ensure only valid use of them.

Dot is now working on the AI ​​based monitoring system against spam calls, so that such fake networks can be blocked in the beginning. Apart from this, the government is also taking steps towards further strengthening KYC verification, making it easier to identify fake numbers.
