The Indian team has suffered a setback before the ODI series against South Africa. According to media reports, ODI team captain and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is already out for 2-3 months, now captain Shubman Gill is also going to sit out of the ODI series starting from November 30. Gill suffered a neck injury in the first Test match played against South Africa in Kolkata.
Shubman Gill had reached Guwahati with the Indian team from Kolkata, where the second test match between India vs South Africa is being played. Now Doctor Dinshaw Pardiwala has advised Gill to take rest for a few more days. Gill can be fully fit for the T20 series against South Africa, which starts from December 9. Let us tell you that Gill will be examined again next week, then any further decision will be taken on his playing.
According to Times of India, a BCCI official said, “Unfortunately, Shubman Gill will be unavailable for the 3-match ODI series against South Africa. Very soon, a selectors meeting can be held in Guwahati, in which the names of KL Rahul, Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant are also possible to be discussed.
Rishabh Pant is not a regular part of the ODI team at present, but the management can change its working methods in this format. It is possible that an attempt may be made to include left-handed batsmen in the team.
There are many right-handed batsmen in the current batting order of the Indian team. In the absence of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal can open with Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant or Tilak Verma can be seen as the number-4 option.
