DRDO Hypersonic Missile: The Indian Army showed its strength during the India-Pakistan struggle. Now India stands on the threshold of creating new history in the defense sector. DRDO Senior Scientist Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra said on May 16, 2025 that India is on the verge of achieving a major defense achievement with indigenous hypersonic missiles capable of flying at a speed of 5 Mac.
At the Powering Bharat Summit of News18, the former DRDO chief said that successful tests of hypersonic missiles have been conducted and now preparations are being made to bring the missile system to everyone soon. The speed of this missile is 5 Mac i.e. about 6120 km. Will be an hour, which will be one of the fastest and deadly missiles in the world. After the missile is unveiled, India will reach a new height as the world’s military power.
What did Dr. Sudhir Mishra say?
He said, “Two-three weeks ago we tested the hypersonic engine. Soon we will bring a hypersonic missile that will reach the speed of Mac 5. All techniques for BrahMos have been developed by DRDO itself, we have also made the world’s largest launcher itself.” He further said that when other countries compare the missile system and choose to include India’s system, it means that our system is best.
‘Emphasis on quality not on cost’
He described BrahMos as a very powerful uniq weapon that attacks with great strength, which makes it almost impossible to stop it. Speaking on the reliability of the missile system, he said that every time more than 130 tests have been conducted with continuous improvement in criteria. Emphasis was laid on the importance of more quality than the cost.
Mishra said that DRDO avoids traditional L1 (lowest bidding) route, rather than option of T1, which is the best technical offering, so that it can ensure that performance is not compromised. He said, “Indian systems like Akash, BrahMos and other indigenous electronic technology have greatly increased the confidence of the armed forces.”
What are hypersonic missiles?
These are the missiles that can fly five times or even more than the speed of the voice. Their speed can range from Mac 5 to Mac 25. These missiles are known for their speed, but also have the ability to change their direction in the middle air. Not only this, due to flying at lower height, they are almost invincible for the existing air defense system.
