Russia claims that on New Year’s night, 24 people have died and about 50 have been injured in a drone attack on a hotel and cafe in the disputed Kherson area snatched from Ukraine. Russia claims that such a substance was found in the drone that after exploding it caught fire, due to which the people celebrating got injured. The special thing is that Russia has directly blamed Ukraine for this incident and has accused the intelligence agencies of England and other European countries for this drone attack.
CIA calls news of attack on Putin’s house false
It is noteworthy that the American intelligence agency CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) has declared the news of drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s house in Novograd as false. Russia had alleged that on the night of December 28, Ukraine had tried to assassinate Putin by attacking his house with 91 drones, but the CIA has shared information with President Donald Trump that Ukraine has not carried out any attack. In such a situation, Russia’s claims have suffered a tremendous blow. This is the reason why Russia has not directly accused Ukraine regarding the drone attack in Kherson.
‘Attack was carried out by three different drones’
Quoting Kherson province governor Vladimir Saldo, Russia said that the attack was carried out by three different drones. Saldo also shared pictures of hotels and cafes destroyed after the attack. The Governor told the Russian Foreign Ministry that it was a well-planned conspiracy. The Russian governor said that a total of 24 people, including a child, lost their lives in the attack. All these people were celebrating New Year in hotels and cafes. Russia’s emergency services were alerted after the attack, but Russia’s claims have not been confirmed by independent agencies.
Russia captures large part of Kherson
There has been no information or reaction from Ukraine regarding the Kherson attack. However, a few months ago also there was news of an attack on a hotel in Kherson, in which Saldo was reported injured. Before the war started in February 2022, Kherson city situated on the coast of the Black Sea was occupied by Ukraine. Later, Russia captured a large part of Kherson province in military operations.
Some areas are still under Ukraine’s control. Last year in November (2025), famous Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie also visited war-torn Kherson and met the victims. Kherson is also like the south-eastern Donetsk, Luhansk (Lugansk) and Zaporizhia areas of Ukraine which are occupied by the Russian army.
