The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) captured three important seats including the post of president, while Congress student organization NSUI remained limited to the post of vice president only. NSUI lost one seat compared to last time and the post of president also passed out of the hands of ABVP.
This time Aryan Mann, who became the president of DUSU, is. However, students will be surprised to know that there is no salary on the post of President of DUSU. That is, Aryan Mann will not get any salary or monthly money directly. But the budget of this post is very big. The winning organization is given a budget of Rs 20 lakh, which is spent on the activities, cultural programs, events and research projects of the students’ union. This money is not used for personal benefits.
Kunal Chaudhary on the post of Secretary and Deepika Jha won the post of Joint Secretary. ABVP candidates were ahead in trends from the first round on these three posts and this victory was confirmed in the last counting. At the same time, Govind Tanwar had to face defeat on the post of vice president. Only Rahul Jhansal won the post of Vice President from NSUI. Josalin Nandita Chaudhary of the post of President, Kabir of the post of Secretary and Lavkush Bhadana for the post of Joint Secretary were defeated in the election.
Voting and tenure
Voting for the students’ union elections was held on Thursday and this time 39.45 percent voting was recorded. The tenure of DUSU President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary is a total of 11 months. New elections are held in the 12th month. Student organizations raise their candidates in these posts. The post of president is considered to be the most important, because this looks at all the functioning of the organization.
DUSU president’s power and responsibility
The post of DUSU president is not only symbolic, but it is also very powerful. The person sitting in this post is given a separate office and he takes part in the administrative decisions of the university. If a decision is not approved by the Speaker, he can register a protest.
The Speaker has to solve all the problems related to the university by leading thousands of students. This post also helps in giving political experiences to student leaders and provides opportunities to step into politics in future.
