E-passport applying process: If someone wants to go abroad, he needs a passport. You cannot go abroad without this. Normally passport is of paper. But recently, the facility of e-passport has also started in India. Which is the advance and more secured version of the current passport. It was launched by the Ministry of External Affairs on 1 April 2024 as a pilot project.

The country is currently available at some selected passport service centers. But in the coming time, there is a plan to implement it across the country. The e-passport includes digital technology and high level security system. Due to which the possibility of fraud and fake passport is eliminated to a great extent. Let us tell you what are special features in e-passport and how can it be applied for it.

What is e-Passport?

The question must also be coming in the minds of many people, what is the e-passport. Will there be no need to take the passport with you now? Like e-PAN, will the PDF version of passport also be? So let us tell you that this is not going to happen. E-Passport is actually a digital and secure passport. Which contains RFID chip and antenna. This chip keeps the biometric information of passport holder such as fingerprint, face photo and iris scan.

Apart from this, personal information like name, date of birth and passport number is also stored in it. To identify this passport, a golden symbol has been made on its cover. The special thing is that the Indian e-Passport has been designed according to the standards of International Civil Aviation Organization i.e. ICAO. Which also recognizes it abroad.

The e-passport brings many benefits for the passengers. Fast immigration at the airport becomes easy to go through checking and automated e-gates, which saves time. A safe biometric system reduces the possibility of passport copying or fraud. Apart from this, this passport is considered more reliable at the international level.

How can you apply?

The process of applying for e-passport is similar to normal passport. Passport Seva Portal will have to login to the form and fill the form, choose the nearest passport service center and take an appointment and conduct a document verification. Right now this facility is only at selected centers, but soon it will be implemented across the country.
