Once again the earth trembled in Taiwan and people were in panic. On Wednesday (December 24, 2025), strong earthquake tremors were felt from south-eastern Taiwan to the capital Taipei. This earthquake of 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale shook tall buildings, due to which people came out of their homes and offices to save their lives.
Earth trembled due to two separate earthquakes
According to Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration and global earthquake monitoring agencies, two tremors of different intensities were recorded on the island. According to news agency Reuters, the first tremor was of 5.7 magnitude, which shook buildings in the surrounding areas including the capital Taipei.
More tremors felt due to less depth
Earlier the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of just 10 kilometers from the ground. Due to the low depth, the earthquake’s tremors were felt very intensely. People said that the ground and buildings kept shaking continuously for a few seconds.

Fresh memory of the terrible earthquake of April 2024
It is noteworthy that earlier in April 2024, a powerful earthquake of 7.4 magnitude had occurred in Taiwan, which was the strongest in the last 25 years. That earthquake killed at least 17 people and caused massive landslides and massive damage to buildings in the Hualien area.
The most devastating shock since 1999
The April 2024 earthquake was considered the most serious in Taiwan since the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred in 1999. The 1999 earthquake proved to be the deadliest natural disaster in the island’s history, causing huge loss of life and property.
