Why more earthquakes occur in Afghanistan
According to the US Geological Survey, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the eastern part of Afghanistan at 11:47 pm local time on 31 August. The epicenter of the earthquake was 27 km away and at a depth of eight kilometers. Afghanistan is quite sensitive to the earthquake, as it is located above many fault lines. Indian and Eurasian plates are available here. The mountainous area of eastern Afghanistan is also sensitive to landslides, which makes it difficult to do rescue work in emergency.
Earthquake in Afghanistan has caused havoc even before
The Taliban government has deployed teams for rescue operations. The injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital. Hundreds of houses turned into debris due to the earthquake. Last year, more than 1,000 people died in earthquakes in the western part.
Earlier, on 7 October 2023, there was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan. The Taliban government had speculated that at least 4,000 people were killed in this natural disaster. This was the most deadly natural disaster in recent times.
More than 7,000 people died in Afghanistan due to earthquake in the last decade
According to a UN report, more than 7,000 people have died due to earthquake in Afghanistan in the last decade. Earthquake causes an average of 560 deaths every year.
