Volcano erupted on 3 August

According to the report by The Washington Post, on 3 August 2025, the Kchennikov volcano exploded after about 600 years in the Russia’s Fundament Peninsula. The explosion occurred on July 30 after a powerful earthquake of 8.8 magnitude, which scientists have potentially considered motivational for volcanic activity. After the explosion, the clouds of ash erupted to about 6 kilometers in height, but the explosion occurred in the Chronotsky Nature Reserve, located away from the population-gradient areas, which led to no loss of life.

Earlier on July 30, a powerful earthquake of 8.8 magnitude occurred, which scientists considered the cause of volcanic burst. According to experts, the earthquake affected the flow and pressure of the magma, causing the volcano. This volcano exploded for the first time after around 1550.

Why does an earthquake come?

Earthquakes are mainly due to the movement of tectonic plates below the Earth’s surface. The outer layer of the Earth is divided into many large plates, which constantly collide, move or stuck. When these plates are suddenly free or collide together, a large amount of energy comes out, which spreads as seismic waves and we feel shaking the earth. Apart from this, volcanic eruptions, blasts in underground mines or cracks inside the ground can also cause earthquake.
