Benefits of kakora: On hearing the bitter gourd, the tongue feels bitter, but have you ever heard of sweet bitter gourd i.e. kakoda? It is a vegetable that is not only delicious, but is also considered very beneficial for health. It is called Kantola, sweet bitter gourd or kakoda in many places, and it also grows easily.
There are two types of kakoda
Acupressure Expert Ayurvedacharya Dr. Anirudh Pandey of Varanasi says that Kakoda is of two types – one sweet and a bitter. Although bitter Kakoda is considered better in taste, it is found in small amounts. Both types are beneficial for health and it has medicinal importance in Ayurveda.
Kakoda may be small in appearance, but it is filled with nutrients like vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, magnesium and copper. It contains less calories and more fiber, which helps in weight loss and digestion improvement. It is very effective in giving relief from common problems like constipation.
Kakoda helps fight many diseases
According to Dr. Pandey, Kakoda helps in fighting many diseases. It gives relief in problems like headache, hair loss, ear pain, stomach infection, jaundice, hemorrhoids. Its low glycemic index makes it beneficial for diabetes patients. Apart from this, it is also useful in conditions like ringworm, itching, blood pressure, fever, eye discomfort, swelling, and paralysis occurring in the rain.
It can be prepared as vegetables, curries or bunches by peeling the outer layer of kakoda. Its taste is spicy and also beneficial for health. However, pregnant women and people who are taking regular medicines should consume it only with the advice of a doctor.
