The election bugle has sounded in Bengal. Political rhetoric has continued since the dates were announced after the Election Commission’s press conference on Sunday. In such a situation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised questions on the decision of the Election Commission. He has said that the removal of the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary by the Election Commission shows serious disrespect towards the efficient officers of Bengal.
What did Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee say?
Mamata Banerjee said that transferring the woman Chief Secretary without consulting the state government is an anti-women step. In fact, after the Principal Secretary and Chief Secretary, now senior police officers in West Bengal were also transferred by the Central Election Commission. Apart from this, the state DGP, IG and Kolkata Police Commissioner have also been transferred. In their place new officers have been given the responsibility.
According to the Election Commission, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had said in a press conference that the elections in West Bengal will be conducted in a violence-free and peaceful manner. Due to this, the Election Commission has transferred senior police officers of West Bengal including DGP and Kolkata Police Commissioner.
This time elections will be held in two phases in West Bengal
The Election Commission has announced the election dates of the upcoming five states including West Bengal on Sunday. Elections will be held in Bengal in 2 phases instead of 8 phases. The first phase notification will be issued on March 30. For this, candidates can file their nominations till 6th April. Withdrawal of nominations will be allowed on 9th April. Voting for the first phase will take place on April 23.
Notification for the second phase will be issued on April 2. Nominations will be filed by April 9. Nominations for the second phase can be withdrawn till April 13. Apart from this, the second phase of voting will take place on April 29. The counting of electoral votes will take place on 4th May 2026, with this the elections in the states will be completed on 6th May 2026. Voting will be held on 294 assembly seats in the state. With the announcement of election dates, the code of conduct has now been implemented in the state.
