Discord App: Anti -corruption protests in Nepal have taken a big form in recent times. What is discord?

Discord is not an ordinary social media platform. It was specially designed for gamers in 2015, so that they could easily chat while playing and do not have to get out of the game. It was developed by Stanislav Vishnevsky and Jason Citron. Within a year of launch, it had more than 2.5 crore users.

This app became even more popular during the epidemic, especially between Gen Z. Earlier, where it was used only for conversation during gaming, later people started adopting it to discuss the subjects of general conversation and their choice by making different servers.

How is Discord used?

To understand the use of Discord, it is necessary to first understand its server concept. If you want to run it on your smartphone, then you have to create an account by downloading the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. After this, if you want, you can make your own server or you can connect with an existing server.

You can understand a discord server like a large online community where many channels can be created. Text, videos and photos can be easily shared on these channels. Although a maximum of 5 lakh members can be added to every server, but only 2.5 lakh people can be active simultaneously at any time.

Discord and Nepal dispute

Today, discussions about discord are intensifying in Nepal as this platform has become a safe place for the youth, where they can openly argue the government and are also expressing their opinion on issues like choosing Prime Minister. Even though it is just a rumor but it is clear that Discord is no longer limited to gaming chat apps, but gradually it is becoming an important medium of political and social debate.
