It has been decided to close the US government’s foreign aid agency USAID (United States Agency for International Development). Alan Musk -led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has issued an official order in this regard. According to the Reuters report, all the employees of the agency will be removed from the job by 25 September.

The institution was 64 years old

The USAID was established in the 1960s to run a humanitarian aid program by the US government. About 10,000 employees work in this agency, out of which two-thirds are posted abroad. The Trump administration started the process of closure of this agency in February and merging its works into State Department.

Start getting notice

According to sources, the Human Resource Department of USAID has informed all the regional offices in a conference call that by August, notices will be issued to remove more than 10,000 local employees from the job. Along with this, American diplomats and government officials posted abroad will also be called back.

Trump had made serious allegations

President Donald Trump and Alan Musk had made serious allegations against USAID without any evidence. Trump described it as “Radical Left Lunatics” operated, while Musk called it a “criminal organization”. The process of closing the agency started after these allegations.

Foreign aid programs will affect

Many humanitarian aid programs on the world will be affected by the closure of USAID. The agency has so far abolished more than 5,200 contracts and 900 employees have already been removed from their jobs. The State Department will now handle some of the work of USAID, but experts believe that it will not be able to replace it completely.
