What Is Endometriosis And How It Causes Infertility: Endometriosis is a difficult and often ignored disease, which affects a large number of women around the world. This problem can usually occur at any age, starting from the first period in adolescence till menopause. According to doctors, in many cases this disease later becomes the cause of pregnancy problems or infertility in women.

What is endometriosis?

According to the World Health Organization, a special health agency of the United Nations, in endometriosis the inner layer of the uterus starts growing in other parts of the body. Normally this tissue is found only in the lining of the uterus, but in this disease it can spread to the ovaries, fallopian tubes or other parts of the pelvic area as well. This causes swelling, pain and scar tissue to form in the body, which can affect the reproductive system. This is the reason why many women have difficulty in pregnancy.

What do experts say?

According to the WHO report, experts say that the exact cause of endometriosis is not yet completely clear. However, in new research it has also been linked to disorders related to the immune system. In many cases, this disease is seen even if it is already present in the family. Apart from this, the risk may be slightly higher in women who have immune-related diseases like lupus, multiple sclerosis or inflammatory bowel disease.

How are they identified?

Identifying this disease is also not easy. Many times its symptoms are of different types, so it takes time for doctors to identify it. According to reports, it may take an average of 4 to 12 years for many women to get the correct diagnosis. Generally, symptoms like persistent pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, severe pain during periods or difficulty in conceiving can be its symptoms. Imaging tests like ultrasound, MRI are done for diagnosis, while in some cases it is also confirmed through laparoscopy surgery. Currently, there is no permanent cure for endometriosis, but its symptoms can be controlled through medicines or surgery.

What can be prevented from this?

If endometriosis causes difficulty conceiving, your doctor may recommend fertility treatment. This includes options like ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination or in vitro fertilization.
