Badrinath-Kedarnath entry ban non-Hindus: The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has approved the proposal to ban the entry of people who do not follow Sanatan Dharma in 47 temples under its jurisdiction in Uttarakhand, including Badrinath and Kedarnath.
This decision has been taken in the budget meeting held at the temple committee office in Dehradun, which was presided over by BKTC President Hemant Dwivedi.

Ban on entry of non-Hindus at Chardham pilgrimage sites
Giving information, the Chairman said that the committee is considering banning the entry of non-Hindus at Chardham pilgrimage sites. He said that this decision was taken to ensure that only those people who have faith in Sanatan Dharma visit Chardham pilgrimages and other temples.
He further said that this restriction will be applicable in the sanctum sanctorum and temple premises. Dwivedi defended this decision saying that its objective is to maintain the sanctity of the temples of Uttarakhand.
Approval of Rs 121 crore for Chardham Yatra
During the BKTC meeting, the committee approved the estimated budget for the next financial year keeping in mind the preparations for the upcoming Chardham Yatra. Out of the total allocated budget of Rs 121 crore for the year 2026-27, Rs 57.5 crore was earmarked for Badrinath Dham and Rs 63.6 crore for Kedarnath Dham.
In another decision, the board approved the formation of Teerth Purohit Welfare Fund, which aims to improve the social and economic security of temple priests associated with pilgrimage. Dwivedi said that this fund will provide welfare measures for the pilgrim priests, which include financial assistance and other benefits.
Know when will the doors of Kedarnath and Badrinath open?
The doors of Kedarnath temple will open on 22 April, while the doors of Badrinath temple will open for the pilgrimage season on 23 April 2026. The doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri will open on April 19 on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
Committee officials said that in view of the increasing number of devotees visiting Himalayan pilgrimage sites every year, preparations for the pilgrimage season are being intensified.
This year in 2026, the doors of Kedarnath Dham temple will open on 22nd April at 8 am and the doors of Badrinath Dham will open on 23rd April at 6.15 am. Chardham Yatra will officially start from the festival of Akshaya Tritiya on 19th April.
