Entry of ‘Thalapathy’ in Tamil Nadu! Vijay’s roadshow, crowd of supporters – who is going to be the next big face?

Now the entry of film star-turned-politician Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026 has completely changed the contest. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay conducted a vigorous roadshow after filing nomination on Monday (30), in which the crowd gathered on the streets was a clear indication of a new chapter being written in the politics of the state.

This time Vijay is contesting from two seats, Perambur and Trichy East. This decision in itself is a big political signal, because contesting elections from two seats is generally considered to be the strategy of big leaders. This is also an attempt to send the message that Vijay is not just contesting the elections, but is presenting a direct claim to power.

‘Vijay is emerging as a future leader’

TVK leader KA Sengottaiyan has made a big claim about Vijay. He said, ‘Vijay is emerging as a future leader who is capable of leading Tamil Nadu.’ He further said that Vijay’s popularity is increasing rapidly and people are seeing him as a strong option. According to him, no power can stop the public’s decision and change is certain in 2026.

Candidates on every seat, big stakes

This time TVK has fielded candidates on all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and has also placed stake on 30 seats in Puducherry. This shows that the party has entered the fray not with the intention of doing a limited experiment, but with the intention of establishing a strong presence in the entire state. Sengottaiyan claims that only TVK can provide a clean and transparent government. He said that the party is focusing on issues like safety of women and providing employment to the youth which can prove to be decisive in the elections.

Desire for change among the public?

A big question is emerging amidst the current political equations in the state, do the people want change? According to Sengottaiyan, people are now expecting a new government and new leadership. The crowd gathered in the road show and the enthusiasm of the youth also gives strength to this claim to some extent. Vijay’s appeal seems to be increasing rapidly, especially in urban areas.

Contesting elections from two seats is a strategy or a compulsion?

There is also a strong discussion on Vijay contesting elections from two seats. On this Sengottaiyan said, ‘It is common for leaders to contest elections from two seats. Even former Chief Minister Jayalalitha had contested elections from two seats. This statement makes it clear that the party is presenting this as a general political strategy and not as a dilemma.

Will the election game of Tamil Nadu change?

Tamil Nadu politics has till now revolved around DMK and AIADMK, but Vijay’s entry has challenged this traditional equation. If TVK gets the support of young and first-time voters, this election could turn into a triangular contest which would make the results completely unpredictable.

The voting on 23rd April and the results on 4th May will decide how successful Vijay’s political move is. However, at present it is certain that this time the elections in Tamil Nadu are not only about power but also about the emergence of new leadership.
