The 7-seater MPV segment has always been the first choice as a family car in the Indian auto market. Maruti Ertiga has been ruling this segment for a long time, but now after the launch of Kia Carens CNG, the competition has become even more interesting. Both the vehicles are excellent in terms of space, comfort, safety and mileage. Let us know which car will be more profitable for you to buy.
Which car is more value for money?
- The price of Maruti Ertiga CNG ranges between Rs 10.76 lakh to Rs 12.11 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in two variants – LXi and ZXi CNG. Whereas the starting price of Kia Carens CNG is Rs 11.77 lakh (ex-showroom). Price wise, Ertiga CNG is slightly cheaper, making it a better option for budget-friendly families. Although Carens is a bit expensive due to its premium features and design, its value is justified.
Interior and Features
- The interior of Maruti Ertiga CNG is simple and practical. It has features like 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay support, rear AC vents, multi-function steering, and foldable third-row seats. Space is good, but plastic quality is average. On the other hand, in Kia Carens CNG you get features like 10.25-inch large touchscreen, ventilated front seats, leatherette steering, ambient lighting and wireless charging. There is good legroom and headspace in the third row too, and despite the CNG tank, there is 216 liters of boot space. If you want luxury and premium interiors, then Carens gives you more “value for money” feel.
Who is safer?
- In terms of safety, both the cars are quite strong, but Carens has a slight edge. Ertiga CNG has features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child mounts. It has got 3 star rating in Global NCAP. Whereas Carens CNG has 6 airbags along with advanced features like ESC, Hill Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring and Forward Collision Avoidance. It has received 3 star adult and 5 star child safety rating in Global NCAP.
Engine and Performance
- Ertiga CNG has a 1.5L K15C engine, which gives 87 bhp power and 121 Nm torque in CNG mode. It comes with 5-speed manual transmission. Talking about mileage, the claimed mileage of Ertiga CNG is 26.11 km/kg, which gives a range of around 1400 km. Whereas Kia Carens CNG has 1.5L Smartstream engine, which gives about 95 bhp power and 136 Nm torque in CNG mode. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Its estimated mileage is 16-17 km/kg, which is less than Ertiga, but the power is more.
- If your focus is on mileage, budget and practicality, then Maruti Ertiga CNG is a better option for you, but if you focus on luxury, safety and tech features, then Kia Carens CNG will meet your needs better.
