EU and Japan survived US 100 percent pharma tariffs, why Trump became so kind to them?

Us pharma tariff: US President Donald Trump has ruled to impose 100 percent tariffs on import of drugs from India. On Thursday, Trump, while narrating his decree on Truth Social, Trump said that America will now put 100 percent tariffs on all branded and patent medicines coming here. This tariff will remain in force until manufacturing companies actively create their manufacturing unit in the US. That is, those companies will be excluded from the scope of tariff, whose plant has started to build in America or already has plants.

Relief to EU and Japan

According to a report by Bloomberg, it was later said by the White House that 100 percent pharma tariffs will not be imposed on European Union and Japan as they have been talking for a long time on the trade agreement. That is, even after the new order of Trump of 100 percent pharma tariff, the import of drugs on the European Union will be imposed only 15 percent. The same attitude will be adopted with Japan. The import of medicines and semiconductors from Japan will not take so much than other countries. Under trade deals, it has already been decided to impose 15 percent tariffs on import of drugs from Japan.

Why did Britain not survive?

Like India, Trump has instructed to impose 100 percent tariffs on medicines imported from Britain as well. It is being told that this new decree of Trump is part of his industrial and trade policy, under which he wants to reduce the dependence on the import of drugs in America and foreign companies start producing drugs in America.

In May, there was a trade agreement between the UK and the US, in which there was talk on the baseline tariff of 10 percent. However, negotiations on any fixed rate on import of drugs are still going on, so Britain has not received any discount from 100 percent pharma tariff for the present. Here, this order of Trump will be seen on the pharmaceutical industry of Britain. Pharma companies such as Astrazeneca and Glaxosmithkline can cause damage. Britain had exported drugs worth $ 6 billion to the US last year.
