Eu counter tariff on us: Following the announcement of US President Donald Trump’s reciperook tariff, the European Union has also proposed a 25% counter-tariff by taking retaliation. This proposal will be applied to a long list of American goods. The European Union has made it clear that it is ready to face American Protectionism. This proposal will be voted on behalf of EU member countries on 9 April. If the proposal is approved, then these tariffs will come under effect from April 15. However, most of the fees will be charged from May and December.
The European Commission has targeted dozens of American products. Some of these names are shocking. For example, the things on which the European Commission has decided to impose counter tariffs includes diamond, egg, dental floss, sausage, poultry, almonds and soybeans. The European Commission is considering putting tariffs on all these things after some time. Interestingly, borbon, wine and dairy products have been removed from the list. The reason behind this is that Trump had threatened that if the European Union charges these things, then the US will impose 200% counter-tariffs on European liquor. This was especially a matter of concern for France and Italy, whose wine industry is very large and effective.
This battle has been going on since 2018
The tariff war began in 2018 when the Trump administration imposed heavy tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. In response, the European Union imposed 25 per cent counter-tariff on several products including American whiskey. Then in 2021, who got some relief during Biden’s tenure and under the conversation, the tariff on American whiskey was suspended. However, with the return of Trump, the dispute has emerged again.
USA-European Union Business Relations
The policies of Donald Trump are once again shaking the global trade system. The European Union has planned a counter tariff with restraint and strategy, which is trying to maintain trade balance. However, as these tariffs apply, it will be interesting to see in which direction this conflict goes.
