On the one hand, in the ground of Visakhapatnam, the Indian team defeated South Africa by 9 wickets, thereby capturing the series 2-1. On the other hand, this match also proved to be very special for Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal was a flop in the first 2 matches of the series, but in the last ODI, he did not let his patience break and ensured the victory of the Indian team by scoring unbeaten 116 runs. Now the question is whether Jaiswal’s place in the ODI team will be confirmed after the century? Probably not, here’s why.

Will Yashasvi Jaiswal be out?

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a regular part of the Test team, but his place in the ODI team has not been confirmed. Jaiswal got a place in the series against South Africa due to the injury of the regular captain of the ODI team, Shubman Gill. Jaiswal capitalized on the opportunity and scored 156 runs in 3 matches of the series at an average of 78.

In such a situation, the question arises that when Shubman Gill returns, will Jaiswal get a place in the playing eleven or not. Jaiswal is a top order batsman, but there is no vacancy till number 5 in the Indian ODI team, let alone the top order.

Captain Shubman Gill has been opening with Rohit Sharma for a long time. Whereas the third batting order is with Virat Kohli. Jaiswal does not bat in the middle order, but even there Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have occupied the fourth and fifth positions respectively. In such a situation, there is no place for Jaiswal in the team.

When will we be able to get a permanent place?

Since Yashasvi Jaiswal is a top order batsman, he will have to wait for a vacancy in the team. The recent performance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is somewhere indicating that they will definitely play the 2027 World Cup. However, there is no confirmation regarding this yet. But only after the retirement of both the legends, Jaiswal seems to be getting a place in the ODI playing eleven.
