New York City Mayor (elect) Zoharan Mamdani has maintained his old attitude even after a friendly meeting with Donald Trump in the Oval Office. Mamdani said on Sunday (November 23) that the conversation with Trump was good, but his opinion has not changed. He clearly said that even today he feels that Donald Trump is a fascist and remains a threat to democracy.

‘I still stand by what I said about Trump’- Mamdani

When Mamdani was asked on NBC’s Meet The Press show whether he still considered Trump a fascist, he confirmed it without hesitation. Mamdani said that there is no reason to back down from his political disagreements and he said what he has always said.

Sharp statements during elections

During the mayor elections, there was a tough war of words between Trump and Mamdani. Trump had even called Mamdani a ‘mad communist’ and claimed that he could not win the election at any cost. At the same time, Mamdani had hit back by calling Trump a ‘fascist and dictator’.

This was how the meeting at the White House was

After winning the recent mayoral election, Mamdani met Trump at the White House. The atmosphere in this meeting appeared much more positive than before. Trump also praised Mamdani in front of reporters, which surprised everyone because it was a far cry from the earlier harsh rhetoric between the two.

Told the meeting ‘productive’

Mamdani also described the Oval Office meeting as useful. He said that during the talks the same issues which were the main focus of his election campaign came up again and again. Expensive housing, child care expenses, rising grocery prices and the burden of utility bills.
