The Devendra Fadnavis government of Maharashtra has approved a loan of Rs 409 crore to Rajgarh Cooperative Sugar Mill of former Congress MLA Sangram Thopte. The cabinet approved it on Tuesday (August 26). This ‘Margin Money Loan’ is given by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), when the state government provides guarantee.
Ajit Pawar objected
According to the news agency PTI, sources said that the proposal to give loans was opposed by Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar. His argument was that despite the government help from the time of former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, this factory of Bhor Tehsil is constantly struggling and is not practically durable.
Pawar has been competing with family

In the 2024 assembly elections, Ajit Pawar’s NCP’s Shankar Hiraman Mandekar defeated the Sangram contesting on the Congress ticket. Mandekar got 126,455 votes. At the same time, Sangram got 1,06,817 votes. Earlier, Sangram Aopte won in elections from 2009 to 2019. Earlier, six times his father Anantrao was elected MLA from this seat six times.
Anantrao Thopte won for the first time in 1980 and was elected MLAs continuously till 1999. Sharad Pawar’s party won only once in the 1999 election. Then in 2004, Anantrao won.
