As Dhanteras and Diwali approach, people start buying gold and silver. The crowd in the markets increases and the prices of gold and silver start increasing rapidly. In such a situation, with the rising prices, the danger of fake and adulterated gold has also increased. Recently a shocking case has come to light from Basti district of Uttar Pradesh.
The owner of a shop named Radha Jewelers in Basti district sold fake gold to hundreds of villagers at the same price as real gold. The accused sold fake gold worth more than Rs 2 crore and then closed the shop and ran away. After this case, people are now afraid of fake gold in the markets. In such a situation, let us tell you today that if you are also going to buy gold during Diwali, then which mobile app should you download on your phone.
Download this app on your phone before buying gold
Bureau of Indian Standards had launched BIS Care App to deal with the problem of fake gold. Through this app, customers can easily check any hallmarked jewelery in their mobile whether it is genuine or fake. If you are also going to buy jewelery in the market during Diwali, then first of all you will have to check the HUID number on the hallmarked jewellery. HUID is a six digit alphanumeric code. As soon as you enter this HUID in BIS Care App, you will know from which hallmarking center the jewelery is certified, what metal it is made of and what is its purity.
If the information given in the app does not match your jewellery, then understand that it could be fake jewellery. Regarding this, the Bureau of Indian Standards advises to buy only hallmarked gold, because hallmarking ensures that the gold is as per the standards of the Bureau of Indian Standards and it guarantees the buyers the purity of the metal they purchase.
You can also lodge a complaint on the app
BIS Care App is not only a medium to check the purity of gold, but through it common people can also lodge complaints directly. If the HUID number does not match the jewelery in the app or the shopkeeper is selling unhallmarked gold, the customer can report to the Bureau of Indian Standards and ask for investigation.
Keep these things in mind while buying gold
- Be sure to check BIS hallmark and 6 digital HUID numbers on jewellery.
- Check HUID by entering it in BIS Care App on your mobile.
- If there is no HUID on the jewelery or it is not matching on the app then do not buy that jewellery.
