Early Stomach Symptoms Of Fatty Liver Disease: Fatty liver disease, now called MASLD, often presents with very mild and unnoticed abdominal symptoms. Many times the body starts giving signals even before any abnormality is visible in the blood test or scan. According to research published in the World Journal of Hepatology, symptoms like flatulence, restlessness and heaviness in the upper stomach can be an indication that the liver is already under pressure and its metabolism is getting affected.

In medical language, fatty liver was earlier called Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, which is now being called Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease. This disease is quite common, but is often not recognized on time. In the beginning its symptoms are very mild and mostly related to stomach or digestion, hence people ignore them considering them as normal gas or indigestion.

What came out in the research?

Research shows that the initial signs of fatty liver are often visible in the stomach itself. The study found that many patients experience flatulence, nausea and discomfort in the upper abdomen on the right side, despite blood reports or ultrasound being normal. These signs indicate that the liver’s work of digestion and processing of nutrients is beginning to be affected. Fatty liver occurs when excessive fat accumulates in the liver, which is often not related to alcohol. As this fat increases, the liver may swell or become slightly swollen, causing discomfort in the upper abdomen.

There are hidden signs of stomach problems

Often people think that only obvious symptoms like jaundice are seen in liver disease, but the reality is that the initial signs are hidden in the stomach itself. The most common symptom is mild but persistent pain or feeling of pressure in the right upper part of the stomach. Many people feel as if something heavy is pressing inside the stomach, especially when turning over. Complaints of flatulence and feeling full quickly are also common in people with fatty liver. Even after eating a small amount, the stomach may feel full, gas may form and sometimes the stomach may appear slightly bloated. This happens because the liver plays an important role in the digestion process and when it does not function properly, digestion slows down.

Nausea and indigestion can also be early symptoms of fatty liver. Many people experience confusion, nausea or heartburn after eating fried or heavy food; these symptoms come and go frequently and can be aggravated by poor diet, overeating or lack of physical activity.

What do experts say?

Experts say that if these early symptoms related to the stomach are identified in time, then fatty liver can be prevented from progressing to serious stages like fibrosis or cirrhosis. By eating right, regular exercise, staying away from processed food and consulting a doctor on time, liver health can be protected for a long time.
