Players scared after the explosion
The car bomb blast in Islamabad on Tuesday created a stir in the Sri Lankan camp. It is being told that the Pakistani team was also staying in the same area at the time of the blast. After this, eight players of the Sri Lankan team and some support staff expressed their desire to return home immediately. Players say that the situation is worsening and it is no longer safe to live in Pakistan.
SLC’s strict stance
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has refused to accept this decision of the players. The board said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the local administration have given full assurance of security, so there is no need for anyone to go back. SLC warned in its statement that if any player or staff member leaves Pakistan in violation of the board’s order, a formal review will be conducted and disciplinary action will be taken against him.
That means, players who flee Pakistan may have to face strict action from the board after returning to Sri Lanka.
Pressure on players increased
According to sources, throughout the day the Sri Lankan players kept demanding to get out of Pakistan. They want the tour to be canceled midway. Sri Lanka has played only one ODI match so far in this tour, while two more matches are left. After this, they also have to play a triangular T-20 series with Zimbabwe in Pakistan.
Keeping in view the concerns of the players, a long meeting was held late night between the board, team management and Pakistani security agencies. For this reason, the remaining two ODI matches have been postponed by one day. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that now these matches will be played on 14 and 16 November.
Pakistan’s disgrace again
This incident is another big blow to the image of Pakistan. In the last few years, due to repeated terrorist attacks there, many teams have withdrawn from the tour. Now, with the Sri Lankan team feeling insecure, questions have once again been raised on hosting Pakistan.
