Fierce earthquake on this island after Myanmar, 7.0 intensity on Richter scale, tsunami warning continues

The Tonga Islands in the South-Western Pacific Ocean region caused an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude on the Richter scale on Sunday (30 March 2025) at 5.48 pm. The National Earthquake Science Center has given this information. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a tsunami warning has been issued in the Pacific Ocean region due to this powerful earthquake.

The USGS reported that the earthquake occurred about 100 kilometers (62 mi) north-east from the main island of Tonga. The Pacific Tsunami Center issued a warning, saying that dangerous waves can affect coastal areas within 300 km (185 mi) from the center of the earthquake. At present, no news of any kind of loss has been revealed.

Tonga is a Polynesian nation, with 171 islands and has a population of more than 100,000. Most of these people live on the main island Tongatapu. It is located more than 3,500 km (2,000 mi) from the coast of Australia. Tonga Island is surrounded by lagoon and limestone rocks.

On Friday (30 March 2025) in Myanmar and Thailand, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake was felt, which has made a huge taboo. A multi -storey building under construction collapsed in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, while millions of people in Myanmar became homeless. Currently, the death toll in Myanmar is beyond 1700. It is being told that as the debris will be removed, the number of deaths may increase further.

After the earthquake in Myanmar, the military government there announced an emergency in six regions and states including the capital Neepita and Mandalay. The Government of India has sent relief materials, rescue teams and medical equipment from five military aircraft to help people affected by earthquakes in Myanmar. In view of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand, India started its relief mission, which has been named Operation Brahma.
