‘Akela’ starring Jackie Shroff was an action thriller film released in 1991. In this film, along with Jackie Shroff, actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Amrita Singh, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Shashi Kapoor, Aditya Pancholi, and Helen were in important roles. The film was directed by Ramesh Sippy and written by Salim Khan.
In the film, Jackie Shroff has played the role of a character named Shekhar, while Amitabh Bachchan has played the role of Inspector Vijay Verma. The onscreen chemistry and powerful performance of both the stars was highly appreciated by the audience at that time. However, the film could not perform well at the box office in those days.
This film was the fourth film of Amitabh and Ramesh Sippy together. Earlier, Amitabh had worked under the direction of Ramesh Sippy in Sholay, Shaan and Shakti. This was Shashi Kapoor’s last film with Amitabh. It is said that Helen returned in this film after a break of six years.
