A National Guard soldier has died in a firing incident near the White House in Washington, America. US President Donald Trump paid tribute to deceased soldier Sarah Backstrom. The condition of the second injured soldier is said to be critical. Two National Guard members were shot at close range in the attack that took place just a few blocks from the White House on Wednesday (November 26, 2025).
Trump called it a terrorist attack
President Trump has called this incident a terrorist attack. He said that this attack was a crime committed with the intention of evil, hatred and terror. While addressing the soldiers through video call, Trump told that he had received information about the death of Sarah Backstrom some time ago.
Afghan civilians attacked, investigation ordered
According to American media reports, the suspect has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who came to America from Afghanistan in 2021. Trump said that this person had come to the country under the refugee program and the previous Biden government is responsible for this. Trump announced that all people coming from Afghanistan will be re-examined and consideration will be given to removing such people from the country who do not love America.
After this incident, America has banned immigration from Afghanistan. Announcing the change in its policy, USCIS said, effective immediately, all immigration requests related to Afghan citizens have been put on hold indefinitely pending further review of security and screening protocols. The security of our homeland and the American people is our sole focus and mission.
Security increased, and 500 soldiers deployed
After the attack, the Trump administration has decided to increase security in Washington. President Trump has ordered the deployment of 500 additional soldiers. There are currently about 2,400 National Guard deployed in Washington, including the DC National Guard and troops sent from other states. This firing incident took place less than 500 meters from the White House. After the incident, security has been tightened in the area and investigation is ongoing.
