India has won the fourth T20 match by defeating Sri Lanka by 30 runs. In this match played in Thiruvananthapuram, the Indian team batted aggressively and scored a huge score of 221 runs. This was India’s biggest score in the history of international women’s T20 cricket. In reply, despite a good start, the Sri Lankan team could score only 191 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Till now India has won all four matches of the series.
Batting first, the Indian team had scored 221 runs. Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma had laid the foundation of a big score by making an opening partnership of 162 runs. Smriti Mandhana scored 80 runs in 48 balls, while Shefali Verma played an inning of 79 runs. Richa Ghosh also made headlines, who played a stormy inning of 40 runs in 16 balls.
Sri Lanka lost despite a good start
Chasing the huge target of 222 runs, Sri Lanka got off to a good start by making an opening partnership of 59 runs even before the end of the powerplay. At one time Sri Lanka had scored 116 runs at the loss of only one wicket. At the same time, captain Atapattu was out after scoring 52 runs.
After that no batsman could play a big innings and the required run rate also started touching the sky. Only after the dismissal of captain Atapattu, Sri Lanka’s hopes of victory started fading. The situation was such that they had to score 106 runs in the last 7 overs to win. Another point worth noting is that even though Sri Lanka lost the match by 30 runs, 191 runs is its highest score in international T20 cricket.
For India, Arundhati Reddy and Vaishnavi Sharma took two wickets each, while Sri Charani managed to take one wicket.
