There has been an update on the injury of Indian ODI team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer. In the India vs Australia third ODI match played in Sydney, Iyer fell on the ground on his chest while taking a catch. According to media reports, he has suffered an injury to his left rib. It is being told that due to this injury, Iyer may have to stay away from cricket for 3 weeks.
Shreyas Iyer out for three weeks
Quoting news agency PTI, a BCCI source said, “During the match itself, Shreyas Iyer was sent to the hospital for examination. Initial investigation found that he has suffered a minor injury to his left rib and he may have to sit out for at least 3 weeks. Before returning, he will have to inform the BCCI Center of Excellence.”
The report further said, “The reports of other tests are yet to come, only after seeing them will we know whether Shreyas will take more time to recover or not. If he has a hairline fracture, then the recovery may take more time.”
Will you play in the next ODI series or not?
The Indian team has to play a 3-match ODI series against South Africa after a few weeks, which will run from 30 November to 6 December. According to the report, nothing can be said clearly about Shreyas playing in the ODI series against South Africa. If Iyer is able to make a comeback in 3 weeks, he can be seen playing in the next ODI series.
Due to back problems, Shreyas Iyer is currently on a 6-month red-ball cricket break and has not played T20 matches for a long time. He is just 83 runs away from completing 3 thousand runs in his ODI career.
