The Aloli (safe) assembly seat in Khagaria district of Bihar has always been the center of discussion in the state’s politics. This seat formed in 1962 is constantly in the headlines due to ethnic equation and social issues. The election results here often affect the political direction of the state.
Aloli’s election story has been quite interesting. The Congress won the early years in 1962, 1967, 1972 and 1980. But socialist ideology parties have dominated this seat.
Socialist camp parties captured 11 times in Aloli
So far, the parties of the Samajwadi camp have captured 11 times in the election of Aloli. Janata Dal, RJD, JDU and LJP have won twice, while the United Samajwadi Party, Janata Party and Lok Dal have got success once. In the 2020 assembly elections, RJD’s Ramvriksha Sada had defeated Sadhana Devi of JDU by just 2,773 votes. In 2015, the RJD-JDU alliance defeated LJP leader Pashupati Paras with the help of the Grand Alliance. In 2020, due to the separation of Chirag Paswan from the NDA, the votes were scattered, which directly benefited the RJD.
What is the caste equation of Aloli
In 2020, there were a total of 2,52,891 voters on this seat, which has now increased to 2,67,640. Among them, Scheduled Caste voters hold 25.39 percent. The largest ethnic population is always from the community, whose number is around 65,000 and this community proves decisive in the election results. The Yadav voters are around 45,000, while the number of Muslim voters is 15,000 i.e. about 7.6 percent.
Apart from this, the total number of Koyri and Kurmi Samaj is 35,000, Paswan community is 10,000, Mallah 12,000 and Ram community 6,000. The number of forward castes is around 8,000 and other communities 70,000. Due to these diverse ethnic equations, no party can win only by relying on one caste.
What is the challenges of development in Aloli region
The Aloli region is still struggling with the basic needs of development. Lack of road, electricity and health services is the biggest problem here. This area is constantly affected by floods and erosion, due to which more than half of the cultivable land is submerged. Migration is a serious issue here due to lack of employment.
