The Indian Army is now going to bring new and modern helicopters instead of its old Chetak and Cheetah helicopters. For this, the army has planned to buy 126 light utility helicopters (LUH) from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This deal is now in its last phase and is expected to be approved soon.
What is the specialty of these new helicopters?
HAL has designed and designed this helicopter completely in India. This helicopter is specially designed to work in mountains and height areas.
- It can fly up to a height of 6,500 meters (21,300 ft).
- Its speed is 235 km per hour.
- It can fly up to 350 km at a time.
Due to these features, this helicopter will be very helpful in the works like Ladakh, Siachen and other inaccessible areas, withdrawal of soldiers and goods, withdrawal and monitoring of injured soldiers.
Why is this change important?
The army is currently using Chetak and Cheetah helicopter, they are made on the technology of the 1960s and many helicopters have been more than 30 years old. Flying with them is no longer free from danger. The new Luh helicopters will increase both the security and strength of the army.
Initial batch ready, technical problems are also resolved
Earlier there were some technical problems in this project, such as trouble in flight control and autopylot system. But now HAL has told that all the problems have been overcome and the first 6 helicopters have also been prepared.
Promoting self -sufficient India
This deal will not only increase the strength of the army, but will also promote indigenous defense building in the country. This purchase of 126 helicopters is part of a large scheme of a total of 225 LuH helicopters. This will give a new speed to India’s ‘self -sufficient India’ campaign. These will prove to be very effective in delivering goods on China’s LAC and Pakistan’s LoC.
