After the completion of UP Board 10th and 12th examinations, lakhs of students are now waiting for their results. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council has made a major change regarding the evaluation process. This time the board has decided to implement the step marking system for the first time to provide transparency and relief to the students in the examination of copies. Along with this, checking of copies will also be done through digital medium, which will not only reduce the scope for mistakes but the result will also be released earlier. This decision of the board is being considered as a big relief for the students, especially for those students who are afraid of long questions and complex formulas in subjects like mathematics and science. Under the new system, now more importance will be given to the hard work of the students and the old system of deducting marks only on the basis of final answer is being abolished.

Evaluation will start from March 18
The process of evaluation of answer sheets will be started by UP Board from 18 March 2026. About crore copies will be examined at 249 centers set up across the state. For this, about 1.5 lakh teachers have been put on duty. The board aims to complete the evaluation process by the end of March or the first week of April.
What is step marking?
Step marking system is a system in which marks are given for every correct step solved by the student. That is, if a student is not able to get the entire answer correct but has written the beginning or some steps correctly, then he will get marks according to those steps. For example, if a question is of 5 marks and three steps are correct in it, then it will be given 3 marks. This will benefit those students who commit small mistakes in the final stage.
Now the copies will be checked digitally
This time UP Board has also made the process of checking copies hi-tech. The answer sheets will be scanned and uploaded to the server and the teachers will check them by logging in on the computer screen. This digital system will eliminate problems like accidentally missing an answer or wrong total while adding numbers. Also, the marks given by the teacher will be directly saved in the board’s database, due to which less time will be taken in preparing the result. At the same time, the board has also instructed the teachers to adopt a liberal attitude during evaluation and give marks to every correct effort of the students. Step marking has been implemented in mathematics and science subjects, while in language subjects only, attention will be paid to language related mistakes. Apart from this, it will also be ensured that only qualified teachers of English subject check the English medium copy.
