On Thursday (August 28) in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, a resolution demanded to give Bharat Ratna to former Chief Minister of the state late Shibu Soren was passed. In this, a resolution was passed to send a proposal to the Center, recommending the tribal leader and former CM to give Bharat Ratna. State Minister Deepak Birua presented this proposal in the House with voice.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has raised the demand to give Bharat Ratna to the late Shibu Soren, the pioneer of the Jharkhand movement. JMM general secretary and spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey appealed to pass a resolution to this effect in the supplementary monsoon session of the assembly. Other parties including Congress have also supported this demand.

Demand for ‘Bharat Ratna’ arose on the first day of monsoon session

The monsoon session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly resumed on Friday (August 22). On the very first day in the House, there was a demand to give ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, the pioneer of the Jharkhand movement. Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav made this demand during the condolence meeting.

Shibu Soren died on August 4

The monsoon session of the assembly was scheduled from 1 August to 7 August 2025, but it was postponed indefinitely due to the death of Shibu Soren. The supplementary monsoon session started from 22 August, which is till 28 August. Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren died on 4 August 2025. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi.

Shibu Soren was a strong pillar of Jharkhand politics

Shibu Soren was also known as ‘Dishom Guru’. He was also identified by Guruji’s name. He was a strong pillar of the politics of Jharkhand, along with it, he also had a good hold in the politics of the Center. Shibu Soren fought hard for the rights and rights of the tribals under the banner of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Shibu Soren was born on 11 January 1944 in Hazaribagh, Bihar.

A separate state from Bihar is also considered an important role in the movement to create ‘Jharkhand’. He became the CM of Jharkhand in the year 2005, 2008 and 2009, although he could not complete his term even once.
