Former BJP MLA Nalin Kotdia, former police inspector Anant Patel and 14 other accused have been convicted in the bitcoin scam case. The court has sentenced everyone to life imprisonment. The accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The case is related to the sensational kidnapping and ransom of the year 2018, in which Surat builder Shailesh Bhatt was kidnapped. It was revealed from the case report that Shailesh Bhatt was kidnapped in the government car by PI Anant Patel and his team. Shailesh Bhatt was taken to some place near Gandhinagar and there was asked to transfer 176 bitcoins worth Rs 9 crore. After the transfer, separate extortion money was also taken from the builder.
Arrested lawyer gave the name of former MLA
After investigating the kidnapping case, the CID arrested PI Anant Patel and 10 other policemen. Apart from this, it was also known that Ketan Patel, a Surat lawyer, was also arrested, after which he was also arrested.
Ketan Patel said in interrogation that former BJP MLA Nalin Kotdia and former SP Jagdish Patel are also included in this case. Police arrested Jagdish Patel on the spotlight of the accused lawyer. The role of Nalin Kotadia was revealed as ‘Fixer’. A total of 14 people were arrested by the police over time.
Builder Shailesh Bhatt also criminal history
In August 2024, Ahmedabad police also arrested builder Shailesh Bhatt. He was found accused in the money laundering case. Shailesh Bhatt was accused of extortion of 2091 bitcoins, 11000 litoins and cash of Rs 14.50 crore. Mixing all this money reaches Rs 1232.50 crore.
