Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided that the Multan Sultan franchise will be operated by the board itself. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi told in a press conference that for the next season, the board will run the Multan Sultan franchise and the responsibility of running the team will be handed over to the former cricketer. After the conclusion of PSL 2026, the Multan Sultan franchise will be put in the market for sale.
Mohsin Naqvi said, “At present, a team head will be appointed within the next 8-10 days to run the team. This person will be a former cricketer, who will run the Multan Sultans franchise this season.”
Let us tell you that Multan Sultan became the champion of PSL 6 season. Apart from this, this team has reached the finals on three other occasions.
How did Multan Sultan team become orphan?
Multan Sultan franchise will play in PSL 11 without an owner. After all, how did this situation happen? Actually, the old owner of the team, Ali Tareen has left the Multan Sultan team, whose owner he had been since 2018. Tareen decided to leave the team citing financial problems.
After this decision of Ali Tareen, PCB sent him a legal notice, in which he was accused of not complying with the agreement and was also asked to apologize. Responding to this, Tareen released a video, in which he taunted the senior officials of the board and apologized and also tore the legal notice sent by the PCB in the video.
2 new teams will join PSL
Meanwhile, 2 new teams are going to join Pakistan Super League. Actually, the auction for two new teams is going to be held on January 8, 2026. It is being told that 10 different candidates are going to bid for the purchase of these teams. PSL 2026 will start from 26th March and the final will be played on 3rd May.
