In the Asia Cup, the politics of India-Pakistan to be held on Sunday (September 14, 2025) has once again been hot. This cricket match between India and Pakistan is taking place on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, just five months after the terrorist attack. In such a situation, many political leaders have said wrong to play cricket with Pakistan on the international stage with Pakistani players.
Leaders of opposition parties demand boycott
A day before the cricket match, political rhetoric has intensified across the country. Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are particularly protesting about this match. Political leaders have also demanded to boycott this match between India and Pakistan.
In Delhi, AAP leaders and activists also burnt an effigy of Pakistan outside their office. Former minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has appealed to boycott all the clubs and restaurants where the live telecast of this match will be shown. The AAP leader has also targeted the central government for this. He said, ‘The Government of India is forcing our cricketers to play with such cheap people, who wiped out the vermilion of our sisters. We will highlight all the clubs and restaurants of Delhi, where the live telecast of the India-Pakistan match will be shown.
Uddhav Thackeray’s attack over India-Pakistan match
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, while attacking the Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan, cited an old statement by Prime Minister Modi, in which the PM said on the Indus Water Treaty that ‘blood and water cannot flow’. Thackeray questioned, ‘How can war and cricket be played together? These people have also made patriotism a business. They only need money.
We should not play with Pakistani players- Priyanka
Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also appealed to the people of the country to unite against Pakistan. He said, ‘Pakistani cricketers are making fun of our and operation vermilion through their social media. We should not play with Pakistani players until they stop supporting the terrorists.
Congress MP targeted central government
Congress MP Imran Masoon took a dig at the central government in this regard. He said, ‘People are just making money. They do not care at all that the vermilion of our sisters disappeared, their families were destroyed. There is a thrill in the India-Pakistan match and for this reason tickets are being sold at expensive prices. The government should be ashamed that cricket is being played with Pakistan at such a time.
Compulsion to play matches with Pakistan- Central Government
Amid opposition from opposition leaders, the Central Government has argued about playing a cricket match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that it is a compulsion for India to play this match, because if India does not play the match, Pakistan will get points.
He said, ‘When multinational tournaments are organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) or International Cricket Council (ICC), it becomes a compulsion for countries to participate in it. If a team does not participate in it, it is excluded from the tournament, that country has to leave the match and another team gets its points. But India does not play any bilateral tournament with Pakistan.
The Union Minister made it clear that India has been a policy for years that no bilateral cricket series will be played with it until Pakistan stops terrorist attacks.
